The AvLab

After receiving our first grant to help us with the construction of the Discover Aviation Center “AVLAB” it has now become a reality. This is a mobile lab that brings the joy of aviation to the front door of your school or event. Contact us for scheduling the Lab at your event.

We teamed up with MRK Aviation that provided us with two simulators and Titan Aircraft that will provide us with the materials to begin construction of an airplane.
Discover Aviation Center has two simulators that were donated to us.  a Elite Pro Panel that runs Microsoft FSX that kids can learn to fly and A 1990’s AST Hawk, which in the 90’s was state of the art.  Luckily, Mike Mossman has a lot of experience with this sim and has been donating his time and talents to getting her up and running to use as a display at the Discover Aviation Center.

Career Fairs!

Discover Aviation Center is always present at local career fairs and “STEM” events.  When possible, we try to bring the small simulator to these events.  Kids line up to take off from Cleveland Hopkins and land at Burke Lakefront Airport, with guidance provided by one of our many Flight Instructor volunteers.  One of our flying club members, Larry Coleman teaches a private pilot ground school at LCCC, and utilizes the DAC to bring the students to the airport to see the environment and various aircraft on the field.

The Discover Aviation Center loves to give tours of the airport.  Many aircraft are usually available to show the kids.  Based at Lorain County Airport are many sport planes, single and multi-engine aircraft and even some BIG JETS!  Metro LifeFlight, when available, will be happy to show off their Helicopter.  It’s a great way to give your troop an idea of all the services that their local airport has to offer.

Summer Safety Seminars for aspiring and current pilots are also being developed to help build a strong and vibrant safety culture.  Please CONTACT US if you would like more information or wish to share your ideas on how we can work together to keep general aviation strong and growing.
